Medical Research

Joan’s Legacy was created by Dr. Hidalgo’s family in 2001 and is the largest private foundation funding lung cancer research in the United States. Lung cancer is the number one cause of cancer death today. Joan’s Legacy, which focuses on nonsmoking related lung cancer, has funded over $2,400,000 in research grants within its first four years of inception. Dr. Hidalgo chairs the medical committee composed of thoracic oncologists from some of the most prestigious institutions in the country.
