Our patients is seen 6 weeks following a facelift with a lip lift added. The latter is a popular adjunct today and makes a subtle but definitive improvement in the overall result. She underwent a “deep plane” procedure with tightening of the neck muscles in the front in order to eliminate the visible cords. The goal is always a fresh, natural result that simply re-sets the aging clock without causing any distortion. It’s surgery without leaving fingerprints!

Brow lifts seem to be over utilized today and are often done for marginal indications. The vast majority of patients benefit from eyelid surgery alone. Endoscopic brow lifts were popularized in the 90’s. The small incisions required were much more palatable to patients. Having done them for 10 years it became clear that the results do not stand the test of time. Unless you take out a strip of scalp skin out the forehead will not stay up. Temple lifts have gained popularity because they are also less aggressive. Sadly, they produce very modest changes that also do not seem to last. So the good news is that few patients really need to have a brow lift, but if so, the traditional technique works best and lasts longest, typically being a “one and done” procedure.

Rhinoplasty is an exacting and demanding endeavor for the surgeon. It has to be perfect on both front and side views, every time. Millimeters can make a big difference, one way or the other. Happy patients make it all worth it though. It’s a huge responsibility!
