Thanks to our patient for sending this 4 month follow-up shot. We are still ardent believers that implants belong “under the muscle” despite the recent trend to repeat history (50 years ago) by putting them in front. Advantages include better upper breast contour without the need for unreliable fat grafts, better mammogram imaging, and less capsule formation (breast hardening). Not all patients are candidates for armpit incisions but this patient is an ideal candidate. Saline implants commonly last 20 years, or generally twice as long as silicone. They are not suitable for everyone though.

Our patient returned 14 years after a tummy tuck and we were able to revisit her result. Abdominoplasties are a “one and done” procedure and the durability is demonstrated here. Scar quality, which is normally quite variable, is largely dependent on individual healing tendency. The scar shown here is thin and has faded nicely, about as good as it gets.

More patients also require implants than those that don’t. However, when implants are not needed to provide upper fullness, like this patient, the procedure is simple, there is little discomfort and recovery is super quick!
